Wicked Marvel Hulk Sculpture (3D Print)

Since the completion of the smaller BH Hulk Figure I was on the lookout for something new. Something challenging. Something…green.

And boy did I find it. Here I present this Hulk sculpture by Wicked. The model is obviously based on a scene from the Planet Hulk series. Here we have a Devil Corker regretting it’s attempt at eating the Hulk – adorned in full battle gear.

I will include their contact information below if you wish to see their other models or learn more about them.

This print was the longest, most complex print I have attempted to date. It might well be the most complex one I ever undertake. Needless to say I may have bit off more then I could chew. But this sculpture was so amazing I knew I had to add it to my collection.

Printing the parts took roughly a month of near non-stop printing. The main monster (Devil Corker’s) body took 7 days to print. If you have done 3D printing then you know how much of a nail biting experience that long of a print can be.

Model 60% completed with no paint

Thankfully only one part failed to print properly the first time, and the rest had minimal printing defects I was able to hide or cover up by other means.

Painting took roughly two weeks and believe it or not the tongue tentacles were the hardest to complete. I had a picture in my mind of how I wanted this to look – but the tongue tentacles proved to be difficult to decide on. I wanted them to look like they obviously live in its mouth, but resembled the outer tentacles somewhat.

Assembling also proved to be a difficult endeavor as there were so many parts with some interweaved among each other. I was able to put most of it together prior to painting. But when I put Hulk inside the monster’s mouth I had to insert the tongue just so it fit and inserted to the rest of the tentacle wrapped around his arm.

Another maker who did this model provided good instructions on how to assemble. Some pieces had to be painted separately and attached later. See video below for his walk through. It helped me.

Once the model was painted and assembled I did some final touch ups for areas that had paint scratched off (it was an effort to get everything inserted properly). I even broke one of it’s teeth in getting the tongue in. Thankfully its not very noticeable. I decided to leave it as is (Hulk broke it with his punch…haha).

Once painting was complete I sprayed a protective layer of matte varnish. A couple layers actually. Let it dry. As a final detail I put some nail polish over the eyes and arm wound of the monster. Really helped give it some added life.

Overall this was a rather difficult time (and filament) consuming model. Painting took a good deal of time to get right and assembling took some ingenuity and elbow grease. That being said its an awesome, dynamic model; and a great addition to any Hulk or Marvel fan’s collection.

I’m really happy with how it came out.

Disney Exclusive Planet Hulk (Marvel Select) (2017)

Attention Hulk fans…this is one figure you DO NOT want to miss out on.

Released in October 2017 is the Disney Store Exclusive Planet Hulk figure. And boy is he gorgeous.

PH5

Admittedly I have not collected many Marvel Select figures, but this has got to be the best Marvel Select Hulk figure, if not the best general Marvel Select figure, ever. The attention to detail is amazing. The paint job is awesome (with some slight exceptions). The sculpting is almost spot-on as well.

It IS the definitive Planet Hulk (Green Scar) figure we have been waiting for. This makes the Marvel Legends Planet Hulk figure look like a cheap knock-off by comparison.
This figure looks like an almost exact copy to the Hulk in the comics. Some small design changes are present, but its amazing nonetheless. The sculpting is near perfect. My only gripe is the eyes. They seem a bit doe-eyed to me, but easily remedied by lowering his head down and letting the visor cover them. It’s really more bad-ass this way.

The paint job captures so many little details and really brings this character to life. Only in a few spots on the armor is it a bit sloppy.PH4

The figure’s armor is amazing. I especially love his silver plated arm, complete with spikes. The shield is thankfully included, along with an wicked axe! I think this is the first Hulk figure to include weapons or any sort of add-ons.

This figure is also huge! And heavy. He commands quite a presence when displayed. This does lead to my only other big issue which is the articulation. Due to his bulk and the armor he is limited in his movements. But the poses you can pull off are really cool. This Hulk is quite a display piece. From a distance it looks more like a statue rather then a “toy”.

This figure is only available from the Disney store for $30. So forget asking your local comic shop for it. If you are unlucky enough to not be near a Disney store you will have to shell out $45 or more on Ebay, but other options may exist.

In short, if you are a Hulk fan…BUY THIS! You will be so happy with it guarding your comics.

Incredible Hulk #92 (Planet Hulk Exile 1)

ph1-92

Writer: Greg Pak / Artist: Carlo Pagulayan / Cover Artist: Jose Ladronn and Bryan Hitch

During the Hulk’s long run he has had many stories. Most become your normal monthly fair, some memorable, some forgotten. But back in 2006 Marvel introduced us to a new and exciting vision of the Hulk. They gave Hulk his own world.

Now of course it wasn’t his world to begin with. Hulk was tricked onto a shuttle and jettisoned into space with the hopes he could live the rest of his life in peace on a quiet planet.

Well as is custom with Hulk and Banner things didn’t go as planned and Hulk’s shuttle would crash land on a planet full of chaos and corruption. A planet of death ruled by a tyrant.

This first issue would detail Hulk’s fist steps on this new planet, called Sakaar, and introduce new characters such as Miek, Korg and Caiera. Characters that would influence the Hulk and follow him at least a decade later. Basically take the movie ‘Gladiator’ and replace Russel Crowe with the Hulk. You then have the basic idea for this book, but so much better in my opinion.

I own the hardbound collection of the entire story and it is a big book. But given my love for the story, having read it many times, and now hearing of Planet Hulk concepts being used in the Thor: Ragnarok film I had to own a copy of the first issue. The art is amazing. The story is engrossing. Pacing is a bit fast, but it’s a lot of story to cover.

This issue was valued at about $35-$50 prior to news of the Ragnarok film. Afterwards, the value for it has risen from $50 to as high as $150. Thankfully I was able to win one in an auction for $45. So I didn’t pay much more then I wanted to. Will this price increase remain or eventually settle down? Who knows? But if you want a copy its a gamble either way for buying now or waiting.

In any case I loved the Planet Hulk story line and its influenced much of the Marvel universe and even inspired a Red Hulk version (which I have not read but looks shorter and less interesting). It was so popular in fact that Marvel re-used the title ‘Planet Hulk’ for a later release of a Hulk title occurring during the recent BattleWorlds events.

All in all a great read and with the new movie having the Hulk in armor, this may be the best time to own a copy. HULK SLASH!
