After many months of really no updates and continually looking at photos of the prototype – recent photos of the Gladiator Hulk (from Hot Toys) have begun surfacing.
Overall the figure looks mostly the same as the prototype…at least in general. The biggest change seems to be the head and helmet. The Hulk’s face is much closer to the movie. The hairstyle has a tighter cut. The helmet seems to have more detail (battle damage) and the mohawk is thinner. All good improvements in my opinion.
The only other noticeable change (and this I don’t like) is the body paint being silver instead of white. The silver is an interesting choice…but it doesn’t show up well. The original white paint has better contrast with his green skin.
Overall I’m happy with these recent updates to the figure. I have mine pre-ordered and been waiting for it to be released. But they keep pushing back the release date. Hopefully it shows up in the next month or so. I might even do a video review for that one.
Attention Hulk fans…this is one figure you DO NOT want to miss out on.
Released in October 2017 is the Disney Store Exclusive Planet Hulk figure. And boy is he gorgeous.
Admittedly I have not collected many Marvel Select figures, but this has got to be the best Marvel Select Hulk figure, if not the best general Marvel Select figure, ever. The attention to detail is amazing. The paint job is awesome (with some slight exceptions). The sculpting is almost spot-on as well.
It IS the definitive Planet Hulk (Green Scar) figure we have been waiting for. This makes the Marvel Legends Planet Hulk figure look like a cheap knock-off by comparison.
This figure looks like an almost exact copy to the Hulk in the comics. Some small design changes are present, but its amazing nonetheless. The sculpting is near perfect. My only gripe is the eyes. They seem a bit doe-eyed to me, but easily remedied by lowering his head down and letting the visor cover them. It’s really more bad-ass this way.
The paint job captures so many little details and really brings this character to life. Only in a few spots on the armor is it a bit sloppy.
The figure’s armor is amazing. I especially love his silver plated arm, complete with spikes. The shield is thankfully included, along with an wicked axe! I think this is the first Hulk figure to include weapons or any sort of add-ons.
This figure is also huge! And heavy. He commands quite a presence when displayed. This does lead to my only other big issue which is the articulation. Due to his bulk and the armor he is limited in his movements. But the poses you can pull off are really cool. This Hulk is quite a display piece. From a distance it looks more like a statue rather then a “toy”.
This figure is only available from the Disney store for $30. So forget asking your local comic shop for it. If you are unlucky enough to not be near a Disney store you will have to shell out $45 or more on Ebay, but other options may exist.
In short, if you are a Hulk fan…BUY THIS! You will be so happy with it guarding your comics.
Gladiator Hulk Revealed at SDCC 2017
Isn’t this just glorious? This…is a thing of beauty. I have always wanted a Hot Toys Hulk. I may skip ALL the rest of the Gladiator Hulk figures and get just this ONE.
Honestly it’s a toss up between this one and the Mezco Hulk announced. Basically it will depend on final cost, the final “real-world” product (cause the street item doesn’t always match the show item), and of course my budget 😦 .
Figure seems to come with an interchangeable head without helmet and a couple pairs of hands. Most likely the figure will sit in the $400 range.
But come on…look at that skin. Look at that glorious armor! The weapons! The real-hair mohawk on the helmet.
This is something incredible.
UPDATE (7/27/17): Pre-orders for this figure are now live on Sideshow’s site. Grab him while you can!
Images have hit the internet showing some more toys related to the new Thor movie. They can be seen here. Included in these images are figures depicting multiple characters, but more importantly we get our first look at Korg and Miek! Based on these toys I have taken the liberty to draw what the characters might look like in the movie. This is a fairly quick sketch and given how stylized the figures ares, not to mention it’s of them at only one angle, the sketch is rather basic.
However, we can see what details the designers decided to keep, and update, in regards to the Hulk’s warbound. Korg looks very much the same if not perhaps a bit older and of course he’s gray, not orange. Thus matching him up to the other Kronan witnessed in Thor: Dark World. He also has a bit more armor in keeping with how much more “dressed up” the Hulk is.
The biggest surprise is Miek. In the comics and animated movie he looks like an anthropomorphoid Ant with two legs and four arms. Thin and obviously very frail. At least at first. Here the designers have taken that bug idea but went in the direction of a worm or beetle. Except this little worm is equipped with a mobile mech-suit complete with large blades.
Part of me is sad they diverted so much from the original design. But at the same time I’m kind of digging this new look. This could provide other possibilities along the lines of him being a sort of Rocket Raccoon-type. Miek could be the withdrawn tech geek of the group. This bug form is also very larvae-like. Perhaps this caterpillar might become a butterfly someday…wink wink.
In any case this continues to excite me as to how they are able to further re-invent the world of Sakaar. November can’t come soon enough.
please dont suck…please dont suck…please dont suck
Each day brings us closer and closer to November 3rd.The day of Ragnarok. And slowly details and photos are leaking regarding the film. Recently images surfaced of the new Lego mini figs. In fact it seems loose figures have begun making it onto eBay with large prices from China.
Feel free to look online for more photos regarding Thor and whatnot. Our focus here is the Hulk. Looking at the Gladiator Hulk mini-figure I realized I missed out on another new feature of this Hulk. His tattoos/body paint. If you see the artwork leaked some months back you can kind of see the marks but they blend in with the highlights. I missed them. But with this latest figure it confirms the basic new look for the Hulk. The armor, of course, being expected given the photos from SDCC.
Each new reveal makes me even more pumped for the new movie. Given there is so much Hulk in this it actually makes me sad this movie doesn’t have the dual title of Thor & Hulk: Ragnarok! Alas, we Hulk fans will take what we can get. I just hope they do the character justice. Especially if they plan for him to open his mouth in this installment.
