Dropping today (1/27/17) a new trailer teasing a new Marvel Avengers game featuring Thor, Captain America, Iron Man and Hulk! The theme of the trailer was reassembly and needing heroes. For a brief moment you see a pair of broken glasses and hear the Hulk’s distant roar.
What’s exciting about this is the game developers involved. We are talking the talents of studios behind Final Fantasy and Deus Ex making this game. Could it be we are getting a fully fleshed out Avengers game and not just some Lego kiddy adventure?
If so I am so pumped to play as the Hulk! I would love another stand alone Hulk game but I’ll certainly take this in the meantime. Check out the trailer below. Hopefully we get more details soon.
San Diego Comic Con is over but it has left us with plenty to be excited about. In addition to the super sweet Gladiator armor for the Hulk (to be featured in Thor: Ragnarok) seems a new animated Hulk movie has been announced.
Due to arrive in Fall of this year, ‘Hulk: Where Monsters Dwell’ is to feature our green goliath co-starring alongside Dr. Strange. No doubt in order to drum up excitement for the new Dr. Strange movie starring Benedict Cumberbatch. Given the film is releasing in November I am going to predict ‘Monsters Dwell’ will release in October to coincide with the Halloween season.
The Howling Commandos of S.H.I.E.L.D.
To further support my prediction, Strange and Hulk will be joined by the Howling Commandos. This name is attributed to a few military groups within the Marvel Universe. Most notably they were featured more or less in the first Captain America movie. However, the report given on this film details the words “monster team”. So I am assuming its the more ferocious team shown here.
If this wasn’t exciting enough it’s been promised this film will be more “adult-oriented”. In such the way it is being compared to DC’s soon to be released “Batman: The Killing Joke” movie. This alone is great because after having to deal with the absurdity that was the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. I am so ready for Hulk to go nuts!
With all this said I think we Hulk fans have something to look forward to. I know I’m excited and I’m ready to get SMASHED!

So it’s been confirmed the new Hulk will be Amadeus Cho. The whiz kid seen before hanging around Bruce Banner. I am not really surprised by this since the idea was offered weeks ago. Honestly, I don’t like it. And it’s not even the fact that this is a kid or he’s Korean. It’s the fact they have removed all the pathos and depth of the original character. They also seem to have given him a device that allows him to change at will. So no more anger. They have basically stripped him of the things that attracted me to the character in the first place.
Now I know this is Marvel re-inventing itself and they are trying to be more diverse and make the Hulk more marketable. But they seem to have butchered this character more then any of the others. I’m actually pretty disappointed.
However, I will reserve final judgement till after I read a couple issues. I will at least plan to buy the first issue and go from there. I know the Hulk has gone through many iterations in order to keep the story fresh and this isn’t the first time people have been upset with Marvel’s direction with the character. Banner isn’t gone and things could always switch back to him in time.
So I will wait, but as of now I am very concerned.
So a recent posting from SDCC 2015 revealed an updated cover of the future mean green. And as you can see his new “helmet” is distinctly Asgardian-like. Could this new Hulk also be the new Odinson? Is this new Hulk a God? Not sure if I hate this idea…or if it could be an interesting direction to take. Hulk as a God I certainly like…but if he goes around speaking in ‘thou arts’ and stuff….hmmm I don’t know. I am very concerned about the future of my Hulk.
Or could this all be a joke to lead readers off the scent?…
So today Marvel released a small peak of what to expect of the Marvel Universe for the forseeable future. And quite frankly…I’m scared. I see many positives…but also potential negatives. And this may just be my reaction to dealing with change. I only hope that’s all it is.
Currently Secret Wars is raging and has basically put the entire Marvel universe into a blender and hit ‘Frappe’. But come October 2015 Secret Wars should be over and we will be introduced to a new universe eight months after the end of Secret Wars. What comes out of the Blender will resemble the previous universe in some respects…but be radically different in others. This also applies to our green friend, Hulk.
Shown here is, I’m assuming, a cover for the first issue of this new Hulk and his series. This series will be titled “Totally Awesome Hulk”. Now…if this title indicates the tone of the new series…I shudder to think of surfer dudes or something similar to the Ninja Turtles. If that is the case..I don’t know if I can continue this blog. If this is true…then Marvel will have destroyed what I love about the character. I enjoy the pathos, the connection to the old literature like Frankenstein and Jekyll/Hyde. I love the Hulk because I identify with him. If he becomes some musclebound surfer dude…then I will most likely end my love for the character there.
However, I am only guessing and I will need more information before I judge. The writer of Planet Hulk and World War Hulks, Greg Pak, is returning to write the story. Now he did a great job in my opinion, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
In addition if you notice from the cover his face and, interestingly enough, his left arm are blacked out. Now the face is obvious…don’t want to give up the true identity of the Hulk (we already know it won’t be Banner and who it is will be revealed in the first issue right away). But at the same time they were able to hide the fact red Hulk was Ross. Could it be this new Hulk is wearing a mask or some other kind of face decoration that identifies him? And his arm his hidden just enough to make me wonder if he’s wearing some kind of gauntlet.
In any case we can gather from his pants (now apparently yellow and blue) he is probably not the rage monster we are used to. He might be part of a larger team (like the Avengers) or he’s simply a Hulk with fashion sense (that last one I hope is not the case). Not sure I can forgive throwing out the purple pants, but we will see.
All-in-all it will be interesting to see what they do…but I am upset he was among the few characters to get such a huge overhaul in his looks and personality. Spiderman is pretty much the same…he’s black both in and out of the suit, but still basically Spiderman. Ironman is still Tony Stark in a suit, but with different motivations. Doctor Strange is still…Strange.
I guess we will see if this blog remains in business come October…
Happy New Year Hulksters! Sorry about not posting anything lately. The holidays were hectic and life since then hasn’t slowed down much. I will make it a point to add more reviews of old and new Hulk figures in my collection soon. In the meantime I thank you all for your support in the past months. I hope all your new years resolutions work out better then the Hulk’s. 2014…here goes nothing.
For todays collection addition I give you the infamous Compound Hulk. He was featured in Hulk #30, or to be more accurate “they” were featured. For you see it was in this issue the Impossible Man visited Earth, and to help it, merged both the Red and Green Hulk. This way they kept the strength of the green hulk and the tactics of the Red Hulk. Along with certain psychic blocking abilities of the Green Hulk.
Anyways this figure was featured exclusively at New York Comic-Con back in 2011. It came complete with its unique, stand, packaging, and a collectible box. I purchased this figure for around $35 on eBay. Thankfully the collector I bought it from had already put the figure (still in original packaging) in a plastic case and kept the original box. This figure was a limited production. I was unable to find the exact number that were made for this event. He retailed for $11 at the booth.
Essentially the figure is the Marvel Universe’s Red Hulk toy, except it was produced as a green hulk and half of it was painted red and black. Thus the quality and articulation are exactly the same to the Red Hulk. Please refer to my post on the red hulk here for further details. Due to this and its rare availability it is one of the few hulk figures I have deemed worthy to remain packaged.
Overall the paint job is nice…however a few spots could have been touched up more ( a little green is showing through the red). The card itself is unique and has the Impossible man plastered on the back and front. The stand reads #50/50. Probably not the best hulk figure based on it similarity to the red hulk figure. Nonetheless this is a unique and important addition to any hulk collection, in my opinion.
